Weight loss is not an easy task- it is a journey that requires lots of dedication, patience and discipline. It’s not just about looking at the numbers on a weighing scale and the daily intake of calories, which is the biggest mistake that most people who are struggling to lose weight make.
In order to trim off the excess weight naturally and easily, nutritionists recommend that you should stop burning calories, but burn habits. Studies have shown that people who have trouble losing weight have so many unhealthy habits that they just can’t shake off easily. They assume that consuming 1000 calories a day will help them lose weight in a short period of time. So they end up putting all their focus on the calories they consume per day instead of looking at the bigger picture , which is – changing the lifestyle they live.
Check out below the habits you might need to stop.
Dieting: Diets do not work, and most people who diet either become unsuccessful with it leading to unnecessary stress, frustration, loss of morale or they are lucky and become successful but at a cost – their bodies are damaged in the process.
So the best way to lose weight without dieting is to continue eating all your favorite foods, but it’s important that you find different ways you can manage your weight while still eating the foods you like. It’s not impossible, many people do it daily!
Overeating: In this case, most people who are overeating are doing so with junk food. When you consume more calories than your body needs, you’re indirectly activating the enzymes that store fat.
But when you indulge in high-quality, nutritious foods, you’re less likely to overeat because your body feels nourished and you take long to get hungry again. Junk food such as chips and sweets will never satisfy your body, so you’ll end up eating more and more of them.
Skipping Meals: Most people think that skipping meals will help you lose weight, but this is false. The truth is that skipping meals will just earn you more pounds, because it lowers your metabolic rate, hence gaining more fat.
But eating high-quality nutritious food that keep your blood sugar and hormones happy, your metabolism will become very strong and stable. This can lead to burning extra fat and even building your muscles!
High PUFA Intake: PUFA stands for Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, which are unsaturated vegetable oils such as peanut, safflower, soybean, sunflower, and canola. It’s so ironic that PUFA is advertised as healthy, yet these oils are dangerous to your body if consumed more often. They damage your metabolism and slow down your thyroid by blocking mitochondrial respiration.
These oils cause cellular inflammation, therefore causing your thyroid to be slow. Inflammation excites fat cells, and you don’t want a happy fat cell in your body, getting rid of it is so hard!
Low Carb Intake: Some people think that cutting down on their carbs intake is good for weight loss. But this is wrong, it will only disrupt your metabolism., making it to become slow and so sluggish, therefore causing you to gain even more weight which will be almost impossible to lose without carbs.
You have to understand that carbs are your brain and cells main fuel source, so by cutting them out, you are slowing down your metabolism and you’re also hindering your overall performance. However, it’s not the carbs that are the problem, but the type of carbs that you eat. Try eating carbs that do not spike insulin, like fruits and vegetables.
Laziness: This is another habit that you should avoid if you are on a weight loss journey. If you are not doing any single exercise, you are giving chance to your fat cells to flourish and even multiply. Without any form of exercise, there are very little fat-realising lipolytic enzymes in your body to compete with your fat cells.
The only factors that influences lipolytic enzymes to release fat is physical activity. Your body should always be moving so that you can become more flexible and strong. This will also help you in the long run when you begin to age.
Over Exercising: Too much of anything is bad, so is over exercising. Some forms of exercise can easily trigger excess amounts of cortisol, which breaks down lean muscle tissue and also blocks your growth hormone, which is one of your fat-burning hormones.
Exercise is good for you body, but you have to it moderately. Don’t push yourself too much, so that your body gets the much needed rest it requires and also to prevent you from getting injuries.
Perfectionism: Perfectionism, just like smoking or a daily glass of wine can be dangerous t your body. It`s not the same as striving to be the best or to be healthy. Unfortunately, most people use this habit as an excuse to not do the right things for their body.
Perfectionism is a bad habit because it always sets people up for shame and judgement from themselves. For example; let`s say that you eat perfectly and exercise on Tuesday. But then Wednesday you eat a chocolate bar and miss your workout. Instead of telling yourself “well I ruined my diet today, may as well keep going,” try telling yourself “next time I’m going to make better choices since I want to feel and look my best.”
