I absolutely love the fall season. The change of the leaves, the chilly, but not too chilly weather and cozy clothing are some of my favorite parts. The other part, though, is definitely Halloween!

I mean who doesn’t love decorating their home with spooky things to create something memorable, right? Oh yeah and all the cool costume designs you can do! I absolutely love it all!

One thing I’ve not quite mastered, however, is coming up with neat little DIY projects aside from the usual pumpkin carvings. If only there was some quick and easy idea that would look fantastic around my home for Halloween!

Well it turns out there is! Thanks to Diana a very, very clever DIY-er a new and incredibly easy method for creating a stunning new addition to the outside of your home around this spooky holiday!

The first thing you will need to start this project is a plastic pumpkin. These can be found at any ordinary dollar store or even at some supermarkets around the Halloween season.

These are supposed to be used for trick-or-treaters to use to collect their delicious loot, but Diana found a creative use for them.

What are we going to use them for? Well, we’re going to pour concrete into them so we can make a concrete pumpkin!

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use the plastic pumpkin for anything else but it’s totally worth it!

These are the remaining tools and goods we will need. Some concrete mix, some peat moss, perlite, some measuring cups, some concrete dye and finally some cooking spray.

Your first step is to get the concrete mix all set up. You want to use two cups of concrete mix to one cup each of peat moss and perlite.

Diana also added some extra water to the mixture until it is similar to a thick cottage cheese.

Diana also wanted to avoid the concrete being too grey, so she added in some dye to the mix. This dye won’t completely change the color of the concrete, but it does give it a subtle orange hue.

Now we’re ready to start prepping the plastic pumpkin. Diana took her cooking spray and sprayed the inside very liberally. You want to make sure the plastic container comes off quickly and easily so it’s better to have too much than too little.

Then she began to pour the concrete mix into the plastic pumpkin.

Now Diana knew she couldn’t have just a flat headed pumpkin like the container. Pumpkins typically have stems. So Diana came up with a brilliant idea: a railroad spike. Diana made sure the spike was bent the right way and stuck in the top.

Now it was time to let the concrete dry for a couple of days. There’s no need to rush this part so let the concrete take its time.

Now it’s time to see the end result for all of our hard work! Diana used a utility knife to cut the plastic pumpkin open, revealing the concrete pumpkin statue inside.

Now isn’t that just amazing? You have a pumpkin statue and it even has the eyes and mouth just like the plastic pumpkin. It’s a neat addition to any yard for Halloween!

If you’re feeling extra brave you can even paint it to look just like a real jack-‘o-lantern!

The best however is that you can actually rotate the pumpkin when Halloween is over and it will just look like a normal pumpkin without anything special on the back. So it sit out even until Thanksgiving before you stow it away for next year.
